Improvisation

"Find your own voice"
Leni's unique guitar style will be the focus of this forum.
Indian, African, Jazz and Blues-based improvisatory forms will be analyzed and applied to a variety of musical situations.

Composition and Songwriting

Leni will elaborate on her personal process of songwriting. She will speak about integrating World Music elements into a Western song concept and better integrating Western concepts into African and Indian musical traditions. She will also address practical aspects of writing, including setting up a routine and finding inspiration. She will use the concepts outlined in her book ‘Composing and Compositions’ (Alfred Publishing, 1994) to frame the discussion.

The Rehearsal Process

Leni and an ensemble will explore and rehearse a new composition before an audience. As a bandleader, Leni’s people skills are wonderful. This workshop strives to reveal positive inter-band interaction and rehearsal protocol. The floor will be open to student questions.
